Description
Like a dormant species emerging from the permafrost, CORRODER are a completely different breed of what we see and hear today. In the modern age where hardcore is basically taking two directions – either full chugga metal, or the complete other way, catchy 80’s style punk/hc – CORRODER are aiming back to the 90’s where metallic hardcore was first shaped by RORSCHACH and later dominated by the sound of two labels in the US and Europe: KING OF THE MONSTERS and PER KORO, respectively.
These labels chewed out some of the nastiest dissonant, grinding, heavy hardcore that the world had to offer, many times bordering and overlapping into death/grind. In the US the sound was shaped and moulded by UNRUH, SUICIDE NATION – perhaps even ASSUCK – and on the other hand our old continent offered names such as ACME, SYSTRAL, MÖRSER, KNUT.. With those names dropped, that should already give you a pretty good idea what CORRODER is all about. Chewing, grinding, gnawing abrasive riffs with full-on heavy sludgy breakdowns, on the same time avoiding the typical chugga riff collage.
After their latest release “Doctrine/Instinct” – an insane package of a double 7″ released simultaneously as two individual Records – the band took the entire covid era to write their debut album “Thrive” with the exception of live performances in Finland. The result offers 12 tracks over a span of 26 minutes, keeping the attention on their aggression and intensity. Heavy hardcore with a good measure of grind and sludge – abrasive, dissonant and aggressive.
“The sort of unspoken consensus is that if a riff is not heavy or somehow nasty sounding, it’s not us. Sometimes that ethos generates a deathmetal influenced song and sometimes more of a pure hardcore song and a lot of times it’s something in between a bunch of genres we enjoy. But our heart is always hardcore.”
