Obscenum’s second strike plunges decisively deeper into their own strain of putrid, unrelenting death metal. “In the Depths of Impurity” finds OBSCENUM pushing deeper into their own sound, the writing more deliberate and twisted, but still driven by the same primal aggression as before. The overall tone is thicker and more suffocating, the production steeped in cavernous atmosphere. Subtle synths creep through the mix, adding depth without dulling the edge, while the heavier rhythm section and frostbitten guitars summon the cold spirit of early ’90s Swedish death-metal.
